BACKGROUND HISTORY
NAGHACON is the acronym for National Association of Ghanaian Communities in Nigeria. This is an umbrella Association for all Ghanaians living in the Federal Republic of Nigeria. In the nineteen seventies when Ghana was faced with economic hardship many of its national were forced to travel outside for greener pastures and economic relief and most of them found themselves in Nigeria, the nearest Anglophone neighbor, a country which has had a very wonderful long standing relationship with Ghana they are like brothers. In the course of time, the welfare situation of Ghanaians become an issue for serious concern to the Ghana High Commission in Nigeria, as the Mission was besieged daily with complaints and petitions bothering on the welfare of Ghanaians themselves considering the hopeless nature of their plight stated forming unions along ethnic, religious, professional and cities of origin lines to garner solidarity for one another and offer welfare assistance to themselves. THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF NAGHACON
On 18th June 2005, Mr. James Kwegyir-Aggrey, the then President of the Lagos State Council of
NAGHACON and his dynamic Executive Committee members established the NATIONAL
COUNCIL OF NAGHACON which consists of three Delegates from every State Council of
NAGHACON (including all State Presidents) and it was headed by a National president. This
body is the apex and umbrella body of NAGHACON in Nigeria which unifies all Ghanaians in
the Federal Republic of Nigeria. It meets once every year in Abuja unless a State applies for
permission to host it in any particular year.

On the 18th of march, 2006, the Lagos State of NAGHACON and its Executive Committee, under the leadership of Mr. James Kwegyir- Aggrey and Mr. Frederick Narh Ayiku (Vice President) formed the Chamber of NAGHACON patrons, a platform that brought together prominent, industrious and senior Ghanaian Citizens and professionals in Lagos State.
AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The following are some of the aims and objectives of the Association among others:
a) To create an umbrella organization for Ghanaians for easy interaction and make it convenient and easier for the Ghana High Commission to administer the affairs of Ghanaians in Nigeria. Briefly, to bring the Ghana High Commission closer to the people.
b) To foster the continuous unity, love and co-operation among the member in Nigeria as one people without ethnic, religious or political considerations and to stimulate patriotism.
c) To seek and promote the welfare and well-being of its members.
d) To be the watch dog for ensuring that Ghanaians are law abiding, disciplined and responsible in Nigeria.
